Secret Santa - Your Essential 2019 Guide!

Unsure of what to buy? This guide should cover it . . .

It’s that time of year again and chances are you’ll be someone’s Secret Santa very soon. Which means you’re about to face the annual dilemma - and frustration - of trying to find something for £5 (the average Secret Santa limit) and wondering whether you’ll have to cheat and spend a bit more.

Secret Santa gifts tend to be throwaway and gimmicky, scarcely lasting beyond the festive season. At the risk of being a grinch, that seems a shocking waste of money and terrible for the environment, but at £5 can you only buy gaudy tat? I set out to see whether there are any treasures to be had and am thrilled to report there are. Here’s my guide to the Secret Santa gifts your recipients will actually want.

For Bakers: Mary Berry Silicon Spatula £3.99

Developed by Mary Berry, the “Queen of Cakes”, in a chocolate-grey colour especially chosen by her, this spatula will get into every corner of your pans, cake tins and mixing bowls because it’s shaped to fit into any type of corner. Sold by Lakeland, it comes with a 3 year no quibble guaran-tee. A guaranteed hit with every wannabe Star Baker!

For Fashionistas: Q Ki “Mini Manicare” set featuring nail polishes and glitter file £4.99

Q Ki brands itself as “cosmetics in kit formats, to enable young makeupreneurs and social influencers to develop, capture and lead the social beauty revolution.” That would be us then...

This kit contains 4x8ml polishes in fashion-forward shades and a glitter nail file.

For Fitness Fanatics: Under Armour Women’s Mini Headbands £3.49

These soft, stretchy mini elastic headbands have grippy silicone strips underneath that keep your hair from flopping everywhere so you can focus on your workout. This pack of 6 comes in shades of coral, red, black and white and features the Under Armour logo. Shades of green and mint green would set you back £4.49.

For the Dog Lover: Best in Show mug £3.95

A sturdy ceramic mug adorned with adorable canine characters on a tasteful grey background. Rex London sells many matching items under £5 including an egg cup, shopping bag, washi tape, notebook, lunch bag and storage bag so you have plenty of options for your lucky recipient!

For the Cat Lady: Feline Fine Cat Shopping Bag £3.99

Featuring three black cats on a lilac background each dreaming of a yummy treat, this is a handy reusable and eco-friendly shopping bag at an excellent price. The site features many other gift ideas; I particularly like the cute metal bookmarks at £3.95 each.

For the Coffee Addict (and a hint to my Secret Santa): a Starbucks voucher is always welcome!

Happy gifting!
