Remembrance Day

What you can do to commemorate our heroes
Poppies

Remembrance Day is calling upon us. Every year we commemorate the victims of the First World War by holding a two-minute silence at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Through this we show our respect for the soldiers who have fallen not only in World War One and World War Two but those who have fallen in other areas of conflict worldwide.

As a sign to show that we care and are thinking of them, many donate to the Poppy Fund and carry a poppy on the days leading up to 11th of November.

We devote this day to them out of respect, because they have shown immense courage and commitment in fighting for their country and giving up their lives.

Not only is it a great opportunity to think of those who have lost their lives, but also to assist other charities like “Help for Heroes” or “Walking with the Wounded” who support soldiers who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, shellshock or permanent injury by the war.

There are so many associations that help those who were affected by war. But we can help in other ways than donating to charities: we can also demonstrate our understanding and respect by showing kindess in daily life, by helping them and bringing smiles to their faces.

Even though these actions may seem minor, they make a difference!
