BRIT Awards 2016

The best of the BRITs

On 24 February, this years BRIT Award winners were announced at the O2 Arena with glitz and glamour as the cream of the British and international world musical talent gathered to attend the ceremony.

It was an evening of no surprises, as Adele swept the boards and collected an incredible four awards: British Single for ‘Hello’, British Female Solo Artist, Mastercard British Album of the Year for ‘25’ and Global Success Award. James Bay picked up the prize for Solo Male Artist and Coldplay picked up best group (see full list of award winners here). Unsurprisingly, One Direction picked up the award for British Video, since the award is voted for by the public. Each winner received a trophy designed this year by British fashion designer Pam Hogg.

The evening featured performances from Justin Bieber, Coldplay, Jess Glynn and Rhianna and Adele gave a moving and note perfect rendition of 'When We Were Young'. The ceremony also included a tribute to late British music icon David Bowie featuring an introduction by Annie Lennox, a speech by Gary Oldman and a performance by Lorde backed by Bowie's long-time backing group. This fitted perfectly with his posthumous Global Icon Award in recognition of the late superstar’s life.
